SYDNEY—Advent International agreed to buy Australian share-registry provider Automic in the U.S. private-equity firm’s first local acquisition since opening its Sydney office.

Boston-based Advent announced the acquisition of Automic and its cloud-based financial-services platform on Wednesday without disclosing financial terms.
