Andrew Bailey: lifting lockdown could prompt rapid recovery

His comments came after the Bank of England announced that it expects the economy to shrink by around 25% in the second quarter

Andrew Bailey, governor of the Bank of England, has said that economic activity in the UK could bounce back quickly once lockdown measures are eased.

“If there is, as we assume, a lifting of the lockdown over the months to come, we think activity in the economy will recover much more quickly than you’d get in a normal recession,” he said.
