BaFin calls off push for criminal charges

BaFin, the German securities regulator, today scrapped a plan to urge the Frankfurt prosecutor to think again about criminal charges against six Citigroup traders involved in last year's controversial government bond cash and futures trades.

BaFin, which believes the trades were illegal and amounted to market manipulation, had been considering making a direct appeal to the prosecutor. The regulator was known to be furious over the decision not to prosecute.
