Bank of England could halve fines in ‘appropriate’ cases if City firms settle early

Firms will have a chance to cut their bills if they admit to wrongdoing under a new settlement scheme

The Bank of England could give City firms a 50% discount on their fines if they settle early with the regulator.

In a planned overhaul of its enforcement powers, Threadneedle Street said it wants to "incentivise early admissions" by upping the discounts that firms can receive if they do not contest findings against them, according to a 4 May consultation.
