Bank of England latest to apologise for slave trade connections

Lloyd’s of London, the insurance market, issued an apology earlier this week

The Bank of England has become the latest in a string of British institutions to apologise for historic links to the slave trade.

A spokesperson for the central bank said it is aware of “some inexcusable connections involving former governors and directors and apologises for them”, while clarifying that it was never directly involved in the slave trade.
