BarCap outlines plans for aggressive prime services push

Bank has set its sights on becoming a top-three provider of equity finance and futures clearing to hedge funds in the next three years

The head of Barclays Capital’s prime services division, which this week added nine new managing directors to its ranks, has reiterated its goal of becoming a top-three provider of equity financing and futures clearing to hedge funds in the next three years. The main area of growth will be in Europe and Asia.

The prime services divisions of banks, among other things, lend hedge funds money or securities so they can amplify market positions, and provide administrative services such as custody and trade settlement.
