Basel Committee conducts ‘stocktake’ of crypto markets

The influential Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, which is responsible for telling banks how much money to hold against risky assets, is taking a closer look at financial institutions' growing exposure to the crypto market.

The committee is conducting an "initial stocktake" of the way its members — which comprise 45 central banks and regulators around the world — treat such exposure within their frameworks for prudential regulation.
