Billionaires stay hungry for trophy properties

Wealthy syndicate buys half-stake in 1540 Broadway on Times Square as London hotel gets sold to billionaire family for record price per bedroom

The most iconic commercial buildings are weathering the global property slump better than other types of prime property, as appetite for trophy property from the world's wealthy stays strong.

This week two iconic trophy buildings have been bought by wealthy individuals. Pakistan's billionaire Mansha family yesterday completed the £60m purchase of St James's Hotel & Club in Mayfair, one of London's most prestigious luxury five star hotels. The price achieved equates to £917,000 - £1m per bedroom - the most expensive on record.
