The troubled quant industry finally turned a corner this year after a difficult financial crisis, according to research by Japanese investment bank Nomura, with BlackRock leading the way.

Previously troubled computer-driven strategies such as BlackRock - the world's largest money manager - and AXA Rosenberg, have outperformed their respective benchmarks over 2011.
