BlackRock has emerged as the big winner from one of the first money management contracts to change hands as a result of the pooling of local government pension funds in the UK, and will take on £2.8 billion in passive equity funds from Welsh councils.

The eight funds in Wales, which manage about £11 billion between them, first said they were planning to merge their passive assets in September 2015.
