Private equity firm The Blackstone Group has bought and merged two US sock companies to create the country's biggest sock maker by revenues.

Blackstone is paying a total of $400m (€313m) for Gold Toe, which makes socks for business wear, and Moretz, which mostly makes sports socks and owns the New Balance brand.
