Blackstone’s profits decline as private equity portfolio trails the market

Value of the firm's private equity portfolio appreciates less than the broader market, but assets under management grow 24%

Blackstone’s second-quarter earnings fell from a year earlier as the value of its private equity portfolio appreciated less than the broader market, but the portion of profits it could return to shareholders ticked up.

The firm posted a net gain of $305.8m, or 45 cents a share, in the second quarter, compared with a profit of $742m, or $1.09 a share, a year earlier.
