A Canadian pension fund has joined its peers with a bold move to strengthen its position in private equity - bidding for listed UK buyout house Candover Investments.

The Alberta Investment Management Corporation, responsible for investing the pension assets of the Canadian province of Alberta, has expressed interest in bidding for Candover, a person close to the process said.
