The UK and China are poised to strike a trade and investment deal worth more than £1bn, handing a win to the British government which is struggling with issues at home.

Chancellor Philip Hammond will hold talks with Chinese vice premier Ma Kai in Beijing this weekend where the two parties are expected to reaffirm their commitment to a trade and investment partnership, according to a statement.
