Competition watchdog clears $69bn Broadcom, VMware merger

Competition and Markets Authority gives green light to mega software deal

Following an “in-depth” investigation, the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority on 21 August cleared Broadcom’s $69bn buy of VMware.

In a statement, the CMA said it “provisionally found that Broadcom’s proposed purchase of the seller of software products... would not substantially reduce competition in the supply of server hardware components in the UK.”
