Deutsche Bank has hired a veteran of Silicon Valley to a top digital post in its €4bn-a-year transaction banking division — a business line the wider industry sees as ripe for a technological overhaul.

In a statement today, the German bank named Thomas Nielsen as chief digital officer of its global transaction banking division, which covers activities such as cash management and trade finance and has generated annual revenues of more than €4bn for the past five years.
