DrKW predicts M&A upturn amid gloom

Worsening economic conditions in the US and Europe are likely to prompt a surge in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), according to Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein (DrKW), contrary to the perceived wisdom that corporate activity falls in a recession.

The investment bank has predicted in a report that companies will be forced into M&A deals in an economic environment comparable to Japan's in the late 1990s.
