Working in the banking industry since 2008 has felt like being hit by a tsunami.

What slammed into the banks was not seawater but a huge, moving wall of regulation that knocked bankers off their feet and left them fighting to survive as it battered them with the flotsam of falling earnings and shareholder discontent.
