FCA chief Rathi: Watchdog not planning sweeping WhatsApp rules

The regulator has asked banks to provide details on staff breaching communication channel rules

The Financial Conduct Authority is not planning on rolling out new rules to limit bankers’ access to unauthorised messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, despite previously probing City firms on employee policy breaches.

Nikhil Rathi, chief executive of the UK financial regulator, said that it is unlikely to take a sweeping approach to applying new rules on how bank employees can use encrypted messaging tools such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal.
