Financial institutions are unable to harness the true potential of technology because they have developed fragmented IT solutions as a reaction to changing market pressures, according to TowerGroup, the US consultancy.

Lee Kidder, director of commercial banking practice at TowerGroup, says: "Over many years, the same needs and strategic imperatives – to do business faster, better and cheaper – drove the development of technology in the financial services sector.
