Fund managers have taken heart from Wednesday's successful Italian government bond auction and are looking for buying opportunities both there and elsewhere in southern Europe, but are proceeding cautiously due to the region's continued turbulent politics.

Andrea Iannelli, an investment director at Fidelity International, said the firm has been "cautious" on Italian government debt in recent months as it "did not see enough compensation for the political risks", and had "pared back its exposure".
