Goldman hit by regulatory opposition to Iberdrola deal

The largest mergers and acquisitions deal of the year looks in danger of collapsing after the Comisión Nacional de Energía, the Spanish energy regulator, refused to approve Gas Natural's $30bn (€27bn) bid for energy provider Iberdrola.

The watchdog said in a short statement to the Spanish stock exchange that it had recommended the government deny Gas Natural's request that its hostile offer be approved.
