Mark Schwartz, chairman of Goldman Sachs’s Asia-Pacific business and a longtime consigliere to the bank’s chief executive, is retiring.

Schwartz, a Goldman vice chairman and member of the firm's powerful management committee who is based in Beijing, will leave his position at the end of 2016, according to people familiar with the matter and an internal memo sent on October 17 that was viewed by The Wall Street Journal.
