Years of complaints about high fees and poor returns appear to finally be feeding through to fund managers' asset total

Hedge funds feel the chill as investors find better alternatives

Years of growth in hedge funds and private equity appears to have stalled in the past 12 months — as investors have poured cash into property and off-market credit assets instead.

The finding comes from Willis Towers Watson's annual survey of "alternative" asset managers — firms that manage money in areas outside the liquid, public equity and bond markets that account for the vast majority of most investment portfolios.
