HSBC will make 200 hires for its UK wealth business this year despite downsizing other units in a sweeping overhaul by group CEO Georges Elhedery.

The UK lender will increase its 400-strong team of relationship managers and wealth managers by a half by the end of the year to fuel its ambitions to become a top five player and double assets to $100bn by 2028.
