IASB deals blow to bankers over accounting rules

The International Accounting Standards Board has rejected a European Banking Federation proposal to amend controversial derivatives accounting standard, IAS 39.

Listed companies in the European Union will be required to use the IASB's accounting standards from 2005, but the European Commission warned this week it would reject the new rules if standards setters and banks fail to reach an agreement by the middle of June.
