One of my daughter’s favourite pastimes is playing Monopoly, the decades-old property board game in which you crush your opponent by driving them into bankruptcy. She is six and is frighteningly good at it.

Her tactic is simple: she bides her time and pays whatever it takes to acquire Park Lane and Mayfair - two of London’s premier addresses. She then builds houses, sits back and collects large sums of money in rent.
