When it comes to personal computing, the future is tablet-shaped.

The devices already outsell notebooks in some territories, and sales are likely to overtake all other types of personal computers by 2016, according to research from technology consultancy Canalys. It predicts that volumes will reach 389 million units and account for 59% of all PC shipments in four years' time.
