Khashoggi killing spurs more talk than action from investors

Journalist murder is unlikely to have much impact on financial institutions' approach to Saudi Arabia

When Labour came to power in 1997, the foreign secretary, Robin Cook, declared that he would pursue new “ethical” foreign policy. Relations with other countries would be driven as much by their human rights records as the economic interests of the UK.

Three years later, after collapsing under the weight of its internal contradictions, the ethical tag was ditched and normal service resumed.
