KKR is hiring Ashish Shastry – a top executive at southeast Asia-focused Northstar Group – to head its operations in the region, people with knowledge of the process said on August 23.

KKR and other global private equity firms have been working to increase their presence in the region, which is seeing steady economic growth and providing opportunities for deal making in sectors ranging from consumer products to resources to financial institutions.
