The French government has estimated that Electricité de France will need between €7bn ($9.08bn) and €10bn in fresh capital in order to remain among Europe's top electricity generators.

According to a group of experts working for the finance ministry, the capital increase would be necessary whether the company is privatised, as the French Government intends, or not.
