Merrill blames rough markets for worst figures in 18 months

Merrill Lynch's corporate and investment bank has recorded its worst set of results in six quarters with a 22% fall in pre-tax profits to $771m (€626m) as revenues fell across the division.

The bank blamed poor market conditions, including the high oil price and low market volatility, for what was its second successive fall in quarterly profits.
