Nex Group chief executive Michael Spencer has been named as one of the main backers of an English winemaker, adding to a string of investments outside of his natural City base.

Chapel Down, which produces a range of wines, beers and spirits from its base in Kent, announced to the London Stock Exchange this morning that it had raised completed a fundraising of £18.53m through the issue of new shares.
