Morgan Stanley’s investment banking unit stumbles

US bank's institutional securities unit, which enjoyed a promising start to the year, ended the first half disappointingly with year-on-year revenue declines across the board

Morgan Stanley’s institutional securities unit, which enjoyed a promising start to the year, ended the first half disappointingly with year-on-year revenue declines across the board in the second quarter.

However, the US bank benefited from a reduction in costs pushed through by chief executive James Gorman as well as solid progress at its wealth management unit, run by former investment banker Greg Fleming.
