MPs call on FCA to tackle banks shutting EU expats’ accounts

Chair of Parliament’s Treasury Committee has received reports of UK banking customers resident in EU being told their accounts will be terminated at the end of the year

MPs are calling on the Financial Conduct Authority to take action on reports that UK banks are closing down the customer accounts of British citizens resident in Europe thanks to Brexit.

Conservative MP Mel Stride, who chairs Parliament’s Treasury Committee, said he had received reports of UK banking customers who are living in the EU being told their accounts will be terminated once the Brexit transition period ends on 31 December.
