New rules related to personal references could lead to a surge in legal disputes at financial services firms across the City, according to legal experts.

The new rules force banks and other firms to disclose more information than in the past when a rival financial services firm asks for a personal reference. This could include information about personal affairs or bullying at work, for instance.
