UK retail investors have started buying equities online again for the first time this year, despite trading volumes being at their lowest level since 1998, according to the quarterly survey of private investor activity on the Apcims/ComPeer index.

Online execution-only stockbrokers bought shares more often than they sold them in the third quarter of 2002.
