Osborne to reinstate tax relief for high earners

Commitment in the emergency budget to review unpopular pensions legislation gets the thumbs up from industry experts

The UK’s highest earners could be in line for reinstated tax relief on contributions made to their retirement funds, after the Chancellor of the Exchequer promised to consult with pensions experts on how to replace taxes imposed under the previous Labour government.

Under Labour, anyone earning more that £130,000 (€156,821) a year was made to pay a tax on payments made to their pension funds - those earning less than this amount were exempt.
