Prime Minister Boris Johnson is resisting calls to cancel the government’s planned relaxation of Covid-19 rules over Christmas, amid increasing concern over mixing between households during the period.

Talks are ongoing between leaders of the four devolved nations and cabinet office secretary Michael Gove regarding a potential review of the plans, with a second call scheduled for the morning of 16 December.
