In its sparkling cafeteria in the new London office near St Paul’s cathedral, Goldman Sachs is quietly preparing for its employees’ eventual return.

Once a bustling social area on the ground floor of Plumtree Court, staff will now be encouraged to order coffee and snacks in advance through a new click and collect service. The seating area is closed. Employees will be ushered towards collection points, served by staff behind perspex screens.
