Tesco, Sainsbury’s and the Co-operative Group have won a legal battle alongside ATM operator Cardtronics over a bill for business rates on ATMs located on their retail properties.
The Supreme Court has ruled they’re not liable for rates on ATMs in a matter that drew in the government's Valuation Office Agency. The agency imposed separate rates on ATMs inside and outside retail premises, triggering higher business bills for business. But the chain retailers alongside Cardtronics took the matter to court, arguing the rates were unfair.
