UK audit market faces unprecedented shake-up

A pair of reports recommend radical reform of Britain’s audit profession and its maligned regulator

The UK’s accounting watchdog is set to be abolished and replaced with a powerful new independent regulator, under sweeping proposals published on Tuesday to reform the British audit market.

The Big Four accounting firms — KPMG, PwC, EY and Deloitte — could also be forced to separate their audit functions from their more lucrative consulting arms under separate measures from the UK competition watchdog.
