Survey sees financial institutions spurning consolidation

Despite the huge volume of financial institutions mergers and acquisitions in the past couple of years - particularly in investment banking, fund management and insurance - many are still very defensive when it comes to consolidation.

A report by Arthur Andersen said that, rather than pursuing M&A deals as a proactive strategy to achieve shareholder value, many financial institutions were spurning such deals and favouring a defensive tactic.
