Private equity can be a game of bluff, risk and riches. So too can poker, and one former buyout executive is proving just how much the two have in common.

Philip Sternheimer, an ex-partner at the investment giant Hellman & Friedman, has just won a coveted gold bracelet at the World Series of Poker, beating nearly 400 competitors to take home a prize pot of more than $760,000.
