Dominic Murphy's decision to leave the buyout firm KKR and set up his own private equity shop marks the end of an era for the industry.

It is now 10 years since Murphy was one of a group of senior private equity executives to be infamously hauled in front of the Treasury Select Committee to face a grilling about the controversial nature of buyouts.
