Top Italian employers call for bank governor to resign

The head of the employers' trade body in Italy has called for the resignation of Antonio Fazio, the governor of the Bank of Italy, over his handling of cross-border bids for two Italian banks this year.

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, the president of Confindustria, the equivalent of the UK's Confederation of British Industry, told a conference yesterday that: "Fazio would have done better to resign."
