The route towards an investment banking job is painfully predictable. 

Ace A-levels, then get into a top university, where after a year students apply for a Spring week internship. This brief taste of the industry is then converted into a summer analyst programme, which is then leveraged for a full-time offer for the 70-80% of the class.
