UK banks set aside more for Osborne than Darling

Five biggest listed groups made greater provisions for the government's bank levy last year than for the Labour tax on bank bonuses

The five largest listed banks in the UK have set aside more cash for the government’s bank levy than they did for a similar tax devised by the previous Labour government.

HSBC, Barclays, Royal Bank of Scotland, Lloyds Banking Group and Standard Chartered last year made total provisions of £1.3bn for the UK bank levy, according to Financial News analysis on their full-year results filings.
