UK equity fund outflows close to £100bn since Brexit vote

Morningstar data shows £16bn was withdrawn from UK equity funds last year, although that figure is down on the record £29.9bn pulled in 2023

Investors have pulled almost £100bn from UK equity funds since the country voted to leave the European Union, raising questions over London’s lacklustre IPO market and the capital’s position as Europe’s leading finance centre.

According to data from Morningstar to the end of December last year, £97.4bn has been yanked from UK-focused funds in the wake of the EU referendum vote in June 2016 — an event often blamed for increasing political uncertainty and exacerbating UK fund outflows.
