UK may face 50,000 daily virus cases by mid-October, chief scientific advisers warn

‘The trend in the UK is heading in the wrong direction,’ said chief medical officer Chris Whitty

The UK’s coronavirus cases could be doubling every seven days, said the country’s chief scientific adviser Patrick Vallance.

“If that continues unabated and this grows, doubling every seven days then… by mid-October you would end up with something like 50,000 cases per day… this would lead a month later to 200 deaths per day,” Vallance said.
